Are you an African publisher looking to showcase your work and gain recognition for your contributions to the literary world? Apply now for the CANEX Book Factory Prize for Publishing in Africa 2025.

The CANEX Book Factory Prize for Publishing in Africa, an initiative by African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank), invites publishers of trade books to apply for the second edition of this prestigious award. Developed in partnership with Narrative Landscape Press Limited, the prize celebrates excellence in African publishing and aims to elevate the literary and publishing value chain across the continent.

Prizes

The CANEX Book Factory Prize is designed to recognize outstanding publishers and authors who contribute to Africa’s vibrant literary culture. Here’s what you stand to gain:

  • Total Prize Fund of $28,000:
    • Winner: $20,000
    • Four Finalists: $2,000 each
  • Global Recognition:
    • Showcase your work at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), Africa’s premier trade and investment event, held in Algiers, Algeria from 4 – 10 September 2025.
  • Networking Opportunities:
    • Connect with over 2,000 exhibitors and thousands of attendees from across Africa and globally during the week-long fair.
  • Visibility:
    • Gain exposure through Afreximbank’s Creative Africa Nexus initiative and media coverage.

Eligibility

The prize is open to:

  • African publishers of trade books.
  • Publishers committed to showcasing African literature and cultural heritage.
  • Publishers who prioritize quality production standards and innovative storytelling.

To qualify for the CANEX Book Factory Prize, publishers must meet the following requirements:

  • Publication Year: Trade books must be published by Africa-domiciled publishers in the year preceding the prize.
  • Languages: Books must be published in one or more of the official languages of the African Union: Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili, or any other African language.
  • Quality Standards:
    • Submissions will be judged on writing quality, editing, and production.
    • Priority consideration will be given to books printed and produced on the African continent and those published in indigenous African languages.
