Applications are open for the Amref International University/Mastercard Foundation Learning for Life Postgraduate Scholarship 2025/2026. Amref International University (AMIU) in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, under the Learning for Life (L4L) programme, invites suitable candidates to apply for any of AMIU’s three listed postgraduate degree Programmes at the institution’s School of Public Health.

AMIU, a premier Pan-African university of health sciences education, is committed to bridging the human resources for health (HRH) gap by training the next generation of health professionals equipped to meet Africa’s pressing health needs. Successful candidates will be part of a networked cohort of highly skilled experts in respective fields with increased employability and opportunity for employment creation within the health sector and beyond.

Available Programmes

  • Master of Public Health (Applied Epidemiology)
  • Master of Science in Health Systems Management
  • Master of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Policy

Scholarship

  • The scholarship will cover tuition, stipend, research thesis, academic related travel, conference presentations and publications.

Eligibility

The following eligibility criteria will apply:

  • Should meet the admission requirements for the respective postgraduate programme of Amref International University being applied for;
  • Available for the May 2025 intake;
  • Be a citizen and resident of Kenya or Zambia;
  • Be 35 years or below at the time of application – but there will be special considerations for applicants slightly above 35 years, including: young women, displaced persons (refugees & internally displaced persons), persons with disabilities, unemployed and socio-economically disadvantaged applicants.

Application

  • Applicants must have an admission letter of Amref International University for the relevant postgraduate programme.
  • Submit the online scholarship application form and upload the following documents here:
    • Cover Letter (not more than 500 words) detailing motivation for applying for the course
    • Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts (from university & high school)
    • A 1,000-word proposed research project concept in the field of interest
    • Two reference letters from a recent institution of learning and/ or workplace/ internship
    • Copy of passport (personal details page) or National Identification (ID) card
    • Electronic clear coloured passport size photograph (2cm x 2cm, Format – jpg, png, tiff)
    • An updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Proof of socio-economic disadvantage (letter from a community administrator)
    • Refugee identification document (where applicable)
    • Disability registration document (where applicable)
    • Letter from the relevant government authority stating the reason and nature of displacement (where applicable)

    Guidelines for submitting the online scholarship application form

    • Prepare all the required supporting documents in advance in the recommended format.
    • Save all documents as PDF files, except for the passport-size photograph, which should be in JPG, PNG, or TIFF format.
    • Name each file clearly using the format: Your Full Name – Document Name
