AWJP/DW Akademie Gender + AI Reporting Fellowship 2025

Deadline: August 20, 2025

Applications are open for the AWJP/DW Akademie Gender + AI Reporting Fellowship 2025. AI draws its knowledge from vast online sources, reflecting the perceptions, stereotypes, and unconscious biases that circulate across the internet—much like humans, it inherits and reproduces these biases in its texts, images, and decisions. At the same time, AI also holds the potential to expose and challenge these very biases in the media it processes.

Are you a woman journalist in Kenya, eager to explore and curious to learn how AI tools can enhance your reporting, uncover new stories, and challenge media bias? Are you open to learning more about AI tools to improve your gender sensitive reporting skills? Apply now to join a dynamic program at the intersection of journalism and technology.

The AWJP and DW Akademie are collaborating to launch a Gender + AI Fellowship, which focuses on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and gender, exploring how emerging technologies impact women and gender-diverse communities in Kenya. The program will equip journalists with the tools and knowledge on how to use  AI as a tool to enhance their reporting—analyzing large datasets, uncovering hidden patterns, detecting bias, and amplifying underrepresented voices in the stories they tell, highlighting underreported gendered dimensions in tech policy, data justice, surveillance, access, and inclusion.

Programme Structure

Duration: 4 months (October 2025 – February 2026)

  • Training phase
