Alliance Française Kenya Sound Design Training 2025

Applications are open for the Alliance Française Kenya Sound Design Training 2025. The Creation Africa – Kenya project is supported by the French Government, through the Fonds Equipe France funding facility, and aims to support and accompany young Kenyan creatives and institutions in the development and realization of innovative projects in the digital space and strengthen technical and entrepreneurial skills.

This Creation Africa call for projects, supported by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and Institut Français as part of the strategy for the export and promotion of cultural and creative industries, is designed for professionals who want to master the production of immersive soundscapes for animated films, games, cinematic sequences and podcasts/vodcasts.

The training is aimed at designing immersive soundscapes, creating original Foley and ambient audio, syncing, mixing and mastering multi-layered sounds projects, understanding interactive vs linear audio workflows. Expect a rigorous, hands-on training, guided by a highly experienced sound designer and trainer, from Slope Audio Training, one of France’s leading centres of excellence for sound professions.

Training Content

  • Immersive sound fundamentals & tools
  • Creating original sound – foley and field recording
  • Syncing, layer and emotional impact
  • Game vs film sound – interactive vs linear
  • Sound effects

Eligibility

  • Open to East African national, 18 yrs and above;
  • At least 2 years of professional or semi-professional work in audio production, post-production, sound design, or music composition for media;
  • Practicing sound engineers, audio engineers, music producers, audio post-production editors;
  • Available to follow the full-day in-person training sessions from 20th to 24th October 2025 at the Alliance Française Nairobi.

Required Skills

  • Technical Proficiency
    • Intermediate skills with at least one Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) (e.g., Pro Tools, Reaper, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Adobe Audition).
    • Familiarity with common audio file formats, bit depth/sample rate, and export settings.
  • Sound Editing & Mixing
    • Basic understanding of EQ, compression, noise reduction, and reverb.
    • Ability to sync sound to visuals (video or animation).
  • Creative Sound Work
    • Experience in creating or manipulating sound for storytelling (film, games, theatre, broadcast, or online content).
  • Media Workflow Knowledge
    • Understanding of post-production workflows and audio delivery for different formats.
  • Equipment
    • A Mac or PC. If PC, equipped with an external sound card (eg Vocaster One) and minimum Intel Core i5 processor, 16GB of memory, and a 100GB SSD storage.

  • Résumé/CV: Highlighting audio-related projects and relevant software knowledge.
