Deadline: December 9, 2025

Applications are open for the Chief S.L. Edu Memorial PhD Research Grant 2026. The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) invites applications from qualified Nigerians for the 2026 Edition of the Chief S.L. Edu Memorial Ph.D. Research Grant, sponsored by Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL). The grant supports research in natural sciences, social sciences, environmental law, and related fields to promote sustainable natural resource management in Nigeria.

The award aims to recognize and reward scholarly contributions that enhance habitat restoration, resource management, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation for the benefit of nature and humanity.

This year’s theme is: “Restoring Ecosystems and Strengthening Climate Resilience for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”

Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen of Nigeria.
  • Must possess an M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, or Environmental Law (with relevance to natural and environmental management).
  • Must have been admitted for a Ph.D. program in a recognized Nigerian university in one of the eligible fields.
  • Must submit a research proposal aligned with the 2026 theme and NCF’s mission and vision.

Application

Each applicant must provide:

  • A progress report from their Ph.D. Supervisor (on official letterhead), confirming the status and significance of their ongoing work. This report must be written by the Supervisor—not replaced with a reference letter.
  • A 200-word justification explaining how their project aligns with the theme and contributes to biodiversity conservation or environmental management in Nigeria.
  • A 3,000-word project proposal, including Title, Introduction/Statement of Problem, Objectives, Methodology, and Expected Outputs.
  • A concise curriculum vitae (maximum two pages) highlighting relevant research experience.
  • A scanned copy of the admission letter confirming Ph.D. enrolment.

No paper application(s) will be considered. Applicants should not submit more than one proposal for consideration.
