Deadline: December 19, 2025

Applications are open for the UNESCO Chair Fellowship 2026. Every year, the UNESCO Chair in Interdisciplinary Anticipation and Global-Local Transformation awards a digital UNESCO Fellowship, offering the opportunity to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team at the UNESCO Chair on topics of shared interest. This work centers on the UNESCO global priorities and its 2022-2029 strategy, connecting the Fellow’s personal experiences and research with the expertise of both the Chair and the Center.

This Fellowship focuses on addressing future social, political and economic challenges, exploring ways to tackle these issues through UNESCO Futures Literacy and other UNESCO approaches and tools.

The activities of the UNESCO Chair Fellow include:

  • Participation in selected meetings related to the activities conducted at the UNESCO Chair and at the Center for Advanced Studies;
  • Active participation in activities organized by the UNESCO Chair to be agreed upon based on the Fellow’s competences and area of expertise;
  • Delivering one public lecture or internal seminar about the Fellow’s research interest and expertise;
  • Writing a short Research Paper on a topic relevant to the UNESCO Chair, to be agreed upon at the beginning of the fellowship and submitted before its conclusion;
  • General availability for communication activities;
  • During the Fellowship, the Fellow will have the opportunity to get to know the UNESCO Chair team and any ongoing projects. They are welcome to participate in all events and seminars, as well as explore opportunities for publishing their work (e.g., in joint publications organized by the Chair, in the blog Imagining Futures or in the international journal New Global Studies).

Eligibility

  • Applications are limited to citizens from EU countries. They particularly encourage applications from women and individuals belonging to other underrepresented groups in academic research;
  • University degree, possibly with an interdisciplinary component;
  • Very good knowledge of written and oral English;
  • Organizational skills and ability to work autonomously;
  • Interest in future-related research;
  • Interest in UNESCO and its global priorities.

Application

Interested candidates should submit their application by Friday, December 19, 2025 and must include:

  • a CV (max. 4 pages), including publications, qualifications, work experience etc.;
  • a letter of motivation describing the applicant’s background and interests, particularly regarding their compatibility with and potential contributions to the work of the UNESCO Chair in Interdisciplinary Anticipation and Global-Local Transformation;
  • the provisional title and short abstract (max. 200 words) for one potential public lecture or internal seminar in line with the Fellow’s area of expertise.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Selected candidates will be contacted by the end of January.
