Applications are open for the Royal Academy of Engineering Policy Fellowships 2026. The Policy Fellowships programme inspires policymakers to think differently and to use engineering and systems thinking to frame complex and wicked problems, and design resilient solutions.

The Policy Fellowships programme has grown a unique network of policymakers, engineers and other experts who are working together to develop fresh insights and approaches to economic, social and technical problems. Twice a year, the Academy selects exceptional UK-based policymakers to become Policy Fellows and embark on an intensive programme.

Core Programme Format

Over four months, the intensive tailored programme includes:

  • A series of one-to-one meetings with leading engineers across industry and academia, subject matter experts, and researchers with cross-disciplinary expertise, tailored to meet the needs of a chosen policy challenge
  • One full day in-person workshop in London and a number of short online workshops
  • Individual systems-thinking coaching sessions
  • Peer-to-peer meetups
  • Support in developing a personal Fellowship report
  • Opportunity to present insights from your personal report to your cohort during a hybrid peer-review session
