Applications are open for the University of Oslo Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Children, Youth and Digital Media 2026. A Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo (UiO).
The position is part of the project “EU Kids Online Norway”, and affiliated with the Centre for Studies of Children, Youth, and Media and the international interdisciplinary research network EU Kids Online and their studies. The successful candidate will develop and carry out an independent research project that is expected to generate significant value and new insights in the field of children, youth, and media.
The position is available for a period of 4 years. There is a 25 % component of the position that is devoted to teaching and administrative duties / other career-promoting work. These duties also include obtaining basic teaching qualifications.

Eligibility
- Applicant should possess a PhD or equivalent academic qualifications in media and communication, sociology, psychology, education, childhood studies or another relevant field.
- The candidate’s research project must be closely connected to EU Kids Online Norway.
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Personal suitability and motivation for the position.
- The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the application deadline. Appointment is dependent on the public defense of the doctoral thesis being approved.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with research on children, youth and digital technologies.
- Experience with empirical methods (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, or digital methods).
- Experience with international and/or interdisciplinary research collaboration.
- Teaching experience

In assessing the research proposal, special emphasis will be placed on:
- Scientific quality and originality
- Theoretical and methodological competence
- Relevance to Centre for Studies of Children, Youth, and Media and the EU Kids Online project
- Critical thinking
- Feasibility and clarity of the progress plan
