Deadline: October 15, 2026

Applications for the Cornell University AI for Sustainability (AI4S) Visiting Professorship Program 2027 are now open. The Cornell University AI for Sustainability (AI4S) Visiting Professorship Program invites faculty scholars from around the world to collaborate on research in AI and sustainability and to contribute to the AI4S curriculum and broader academic environment of the Cornell AI for Sustainability Initiative (CAISI).

The program provides a platform for visitors to engage with CAISI faculty, researchers, and students. Through short academic visits, the program is designed to foster meaningful, long-term collaborations while enriching the educational experience of Cornell students.

The AI4S Visiting Professorship offers faculty scholars an opportunity to collaborate with CAISI on high-impact research and contribute to AI4S curriculum development. Visits are typically a few days and generally no more than two weeks at a time. The title of Cornell University AI4S Visiting Professor is normally held for two years to support sustained academic engagement with CAISI, with the possibility of extension. Visiting professors are expected to contribute to the academic environment through seminars, guest lectures, and research discussions.

Benefits

  • Global Network and Professional Growth
    • Access to a global network of scholars working at the intersection of AI and sustainability
    • Engagement with a dynamic academic community advancing impactful research, education, and innovation
    • Opportunities to collaborate on research projects aligned with CAISI’s mission to address major sustainability challenges
  • Flexibility and Collaborative Opportunities
    • Openness to faculty at all career stages and from diverse regions around the world
    • A structure intended to support collaboration rather than create a Cornell employment appointment
    • Multiple short-term visits that allow scholars to contribute meaningfully while maintaining commitments at their home institutions
    • Accompanying students may be considered as part of the broader collaborative plan, depending on the available resources and other program considerations

Eligibility

  • Open to faculty members worldwide, at all career stages.
  • Candidates must be nominated by a CAISI faculty member.

Application

The nomination should describe, where applicable, any existing collaborations and past outcomes, the proposed research collaboration, anticipated contributions to the CAISI curriculum and academic environment, and a detailed budget plan.
