Deadline: November 30, 2026

Applications are open for the United Nations DPoA MTR Journalism Fellowship 2027. This is a fully funded opportunity for journalists from Least Developed Countries to attend and cover the 2027 Midterm Review of the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA MTR) in Doha, Qatar.

The DPoA is the overarching framework for accelerating sustainable development and supporting sustainable graduation from the LDC category. The High-level Midterm Review is an opportunity to take stock of implementation, assess progress and gaps, and strengthen partnerships for the remainder of the decade.

Priority Areas

Reporting proposals are encouraged to engage with one or more of the six DPoA priority areas.

  • Investing in people: Eradicating poverty, improving health, education, and social protection, and building human capital so that no one is left behind.
  • Leveraging science, technology and innovation: Using these tools to address multidimensional vulnerabilities, close the digital divide, and accelerate progress toward the SDGs.
  • Supporting structural transformation: Diversifying and modernizing economies to create sustainable, inclusive growth and reduce dependency on volatile sectors.
  • Enhancing international trade and regional integration: Expanding LDCs’ access to global markets, strengthening regional cooperation, and improving trade facilitation.
  • Addressing climate change, environmental degradation and resilience: Combating climate risks, restoring ecosystems, recovering from COVID-19 impacts, and building adaptability to future shocks.
  • Mobilizing international solidarity and partnerships: Strengthening global cooperation, innovative financing, and support mechanisms to achieve sustainable graduation.

Benefits

Selected Fellows will receive:

  • Round-trip economy-class travel to Doha, Qatar
  • Daily subsistence allowance for accommodation and meals, in accordance with applicable United Nations rules
  • Participation in pre-conference orientation activities, where applicable
  • Access to Fellowship briefings and networking opportunities

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be aged 18 years or older and a national of one of the 44 Least Developed Countries.
  • Work regularly published or broadcast by a recognized media outlet — staff or freelance.
  • At least two years of professional journalism experience.
  • Willing and able to travel to Doha for the duration of the Midterm Review and to participate in all required briefings and programme activities.
