Entries are open for the Peter Drucker Challenge 2018. This is a unique contest that aims to keep the human-oriented management philosophy of Peter Drucker alive in the minds of the young generation. The competition theme is “How to Stay Human in a Robot Society” and is open to students and young professionals from all around the world.
About the Essay
Topic: “How to Stay Human in a Robot Society”
How can we maintain the human face of society in the context of AI? Can Peter Drucker’s human-centered approach be of help? What should be the new roles and responsibilities of institutions and their management? What kind of leadership, talent and organizational culture will be required? Above all, how can AI be used to allow us as individuals to make the very most of ourselves as human beings?
Prize and Benefits
First Prize
- A cash prize of € 1,000 (to be handed over at the Awards Ceremony)
- Free participation and waived registration fee (Regular fee +/- € 2,000) in the 10th Global Peter Drucker Forum to be held in Vienna on November 29 -30, 2018 at the Imperial Palace (Hofburg) (including conference bag and brochure; buffet lunches and coffee breaks at the conference venue)

- If you have qualified for the second round without being selected as one of the 10 finalists, you will get free access to the 10th Global Peter Drucker Forum to be held in Vienna on November 29 -30, 2018 at the Imperial Palace (Hofburg) (including conference bag and brochure; buffet lunches and coffee breaks at the conference venue)
- Opportunity to win the Special Recognition Award for the most original essay (provides travel funding)
If you are NOT among the Top 20 you can apply for a reduced Conference fee reserved for members of the Drucker Society.
Eligibility
- Open to students and young professionals from all around the world
- You must be between 18-35 years old (inclusive of both ages);
- You must have been selected no more than once (or not at all) among the top 10 since 2010.
- Student category
- You are a part-time or full-time student (bachelor, master, MBA, or PhD);
- Or you are seeking your first opportunity after the completion of your last degree.
- Professional category
- You are a manager of people, projects, budgets, and/or processes;
- Or you are a licensed professional;
- Or you are an entrepreneur or business owner;
- Or you are a social volunteer or community leader.
Evaluation Criteria
Essays will be evaluated according to the below criteria:
- Your personal insights into the theme via the exploration and investigation of the cultural environment of which you are a part (the essay is meant to be personal, not academic or scientific, but you may include footnotes if you are citing specific facts or figures);
- Your evaluation of whether or not Peter Drucker’s human-centered approach can be applied to a society in the age of AI
- Your provision of a compelling narrative and telling of a relevant story;
- Your originality and style;
- Your ability to express your thoughts in fluent English.

- Anonymity: Your name must not be mentioned in the essay
- Individuality: Entries must be produced exclusively by you for the specific purpose of this competition, and must not have been published elsewhere. No group work.
