The Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA) is accepting applications for the 2014-16 Regional Focal Points. GYCA invites applications from young people who work in the youth HIV movement in the following regions: Asia Pacific, Caribbean, Middle East & North Africa, North America, Western Europe.

GYCA Regional Focal Points are critical partners in the youth HIV movement. They play a key role in determining GYCA’s strategic direction in the evolving global HIV response, helping GYCA ensure that it is truly led by the young people for whom, and with whom, we work. Through GYCA, these young leaders have the opportunity to change the way the world looks at young people.

About GYCA

GYCA is a youth-led global network of young leaders and adult allies working on youth and HIV/AIDS in countries worldwide. GYCA’s mission is to empower young leaders with the skills, knowledge, resources, and opportunities they need to scale-up HIV/AIDS interventions amongst their peers.

Benefits:

  • Volunteers are often offered opportunities to represent GYCA and their regional work at the regional and international meetings, conference and events.
  • Training opportunities
  • Partners will be involved in collaborative local and regional projects with the UN agencies and NGOs.
  • Active volunteers will be able to access scholarship to international and regional AIDS conferences taking place during their term.

Eligibility:

Applicants is open to young people aged 18-26 who work in the youth HIV movement in the following regions: Asia Pacific, Caribbean, Middle East & North Africa, North America, Western Europe.

They must

  • be committed to GYCA’s key principles
  • be willing to work towards GYCA’s mandate
  • be between the ages of 18 and 26
  • have daily internet access
  • be proficient in Microsoft Word (proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint is a plus)
  • be able to conduct efficient and effective internet research
  • be able to commit an average of 5 – 10 hours per week to GYCA for the two year term
  • have the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
  • have a full proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking)
  • be affiliated (as a volunteer, paid staff or otherwise), with an HIV/AIDS related organisation
  • work with young people from marginalized and or key affected population
  • is from a country that has a stab’e political situation where political advocacy is possible and safe
  • has a good communication infrastructure (reliable phones, internet, fax and postal service)
