Hivos/SANbio FemBioBiz Acceleration Program 2019 for Women Entrepreneurs

Deadline: April 20, 2019

Applications are open for the Hivos/SANbio FemBioBiz Acceleration Program 2019. The program seeks women who want to grow their business through an acceleration program, and gain regional exposure and access to international markets.

Women’s underrepresentation in formal entrepreneurial activities has negative consequences for women and for Africa’s overall development. The lack of female scientists and techies means major untapped potential for national economies and future employment needs.

Without access to, understanding of and participation in science and technology, women are at greater risk of being left behind in a rapidly changing global society. And society is at great risk of missing out on potential agents of change and leaders. FemBioBiz is addressing these issues with a program designed to support, connect and inspire women entrepreneurs.

Benefits

  • Participants stand a chance to win prizes in their countries, attend the SA Innovation Summit, and enjoy additional opportunities in and outside of the continent.

Eligibility

  • The program targets both women business owners who already run a company, as well as entrepreneurial students with exciting business ideas involving agri-food, health, (bio)waste, natural beauty products or nutrition;
  • Innovation is particularly important, and both formal and informal businesses are welcome to apply.

Partner Countries

  • Through their partners, the FemBioBiz Acceleration Program will be implemented in: Botswana (Botswana Innovation Hub), Malawi (mHUB), Mozambique (DEV Mozambique), Namibia (NCRST), Seychelles (NISTI), South Africa (AWIEF), Zambia (WECREATE), and Zimbabwe (National Biotechnology Authority). However, individuals from the entire SADC region are eligible to apply.
