Deadline: December 1, 2019

Applications for the Purdue University Life Science (PULSe) PhD Program 2020 are now open. The PULSe (Purdue University Life Science Program) is a highly selective Ph.D. program designed for students with bachelor’s degrees in a life science discipline.

PULSe students spend the first year of the program exploring research in various interdisciplinary areas before choosing a training group and major professor. The professor’s home department will be the discipline for your degree.

PULSe students receive paid tuition and an assistantship for the duration of their studies, given solid academic standing and lab performance. The entire first year of funding allows you to complete core requirements and participate in laboratory rotations. At the end of the first year, you will choose from one of these training groups:

  • Biomolecular Structure and Biophysics
  • Biotechnology
  • Chemical Biology
  • Chromatin and Regulation of Gene Expression
  • Computational and Systems Biology
  • Integrative Neuroscience
  • Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases
  • Molecular Signaling and Cancer Biology
  • Plant Biology

Financial support in subsequent years comes from training grants, research grants secured by your major professor, or research and/or teaching assistantships. Your degree will be granted by the home department of your major professor.

Eligibility

  • Open to students with bachelor’s degrees in a life science discipline

Application

Submit your application for PULSe through the Graduate School. Your application will be considered by the PULSe Admissions Committee, which consists of representatives from all PULSe Training Groups. Please note that entry into PULSe is for the fall semester only.
