Deadline: December 6, 2012

Do you wonder why many go hungry, when others have more food than they can eat? Why some children have a better start in life because of where they live? Or why some get healthcare when others die of curable diseases?

The World Bank invites everyone ages 14 and up to “Picture Inequality”, a photo contest capturing expressions of inequality in the developing world.

Enter a creative photo with a short statement for a chance to win a $500 digital camera and an opportunity to show your photo to the world!

WHAT:

Submit up to 5 photos to Picture Inequality and you may win a $500 USD camera! What do you think inequality looks like and how would you make this a better world? #PictureInequality

WHEN:

The Picture Inequality photo contest starts at 9:00 a.m. ET (2:00 p.m. GMT) on October 25, 2012. You can submit photos until 3:00 p.m. ET (8:00 GMT) on December 6, 2012.

WHERE:

On our website: http://worldbank.org/pictureinequality

WHO:

Young Talents (ages 14-17)
General (18 +)
from anywhere, but the photos must be taken in these countries.

HOW:

1. Submit

a) Create an account or e-mail your submission to [email protected].

Your submission should meet the following requirements:
Size: 5 MB or smaller and at least 1,600 pixels wide/tall. If your photo is taken with a mobile device, please send the largest available size.

Format: .jpg or other image file format.

Write a short statement (150-250 words) describing how you think the inequality shown in your photo can be addressed. Also write a photo caption with information about the photo.

IMPORTANT: If you email your photo, please add your name, country, age, photo description, country where photo was taken, and your statement. By e-mailing your photo instead of entering the contest on our website you agree to the rules and conditions of the photo contest, available here: https://pictureinequality.worldbank.org/contests/showpage/rules

2. Share

We encourage you to share your images with your social networks. We’re on Twitter @WBPoverty, and on Instagram @Worldbank. Promote the contest and your photos by tagging them with #pictureinequality, your (#country) and (#age), and write a short blurb about the photo. You can also share it on your own Facebook timeline.

3. Vote

The public will vote online starting at 9:00 a.m. ET (2:00 p.m. GMT) on December 7, 2012. Encourage your friends, family and social networks to participate. The voting closes 3:00 p.m. ET (8:00 p.m. GMT) on December 20, 2012.

4. Win

There will be 12 winners total – two from each region (one from each age group.) The winners will be selected by the judges from a pool of the 36 photos that received the most public votes. Each winner will receive a $500 USD digital camera. The winners will be announced on January 22, 2013.
