Afrinolly is pleased to invite entries for the Afrinolly Short-Film Competition. This is a Unique, Innovative and Youth-focused Competition, with singular concentration on the next generation of African film makers. This Competition is designed to expand the conversations on issues about the African continent by Africans, motivate and reward young and emerging filmmakers who exhibit exceptional narrative skills using short movies and documentary as a medium.

This competition is an online challenge open to Africans from across the world creating or have created short films or/and documentary films of not more than 15 minutes. Winners in two categories will each receive $25,000 cash prize. Second and third place winners will each receive $10,000 and $5,000 respectively.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 in each of the two categories namely Short Movie and Documentary.

Short Movie Category

  • 1st Prize : $25,000
  • 2nd Prize :$10,000
  • 3rd Prize : $5,000

Documentary Category

  • 1st Prize : $25,000
  • 2nd Prize :$10,000
  • 3rd Prize : $5,000

 

Eligibility

This Competition is open to anyone who  is 18 years or older and a registered user of the YouTube website.

Participation in this Competition is open to individuals who are,

  • At least 18 years of age as of January 1, 2012,
  • resident in an African Country or Africans resident in any part of the world and
  • registered users of the Google+ website located at http://www.plus.google.com.

The Competition is not open to Employees, officers, directors, agents, representatives and their immediate family members or residents in the same household of the Competition Entities and their respective parent, affiliated and subsidiary companies, advertising and promotion agencies, legal and financial advisors. Any and all other companies associated with this Competition.

Judging

Entries will be sorted by Short Movie and Documentary. Entries will be judged based on the following, equally-weighted criteria (collectively, the “Criteria”):

Judging criteria for Short Movie

  1. Storytelling
  2. Creativity and Originality
  3. Screenplay and Actor(s) Performances
  4. Technical Execution: Camera/Sound/Lighting/Editing
  5. Overall Impression

Judging criteria for Documentary

  1. Choice of subject and relevance to today’s issues
  2. Creativity and Originality
  3. Purpose, and Focus on the topic
  4. Strength and diversity of research and sources
  5. Technical Execution: Camera/Sound/Lighting/Editing/Transitions

Winners will be notified of their selection via email on or about January 20, 2014.

NOTE: 

There is no FEE or charge to enter or win this competition. The Afrinolly short film competition is conducted by FansConnectOnline Ltd., on Behalf of itself and in partnership with MTN, iRepresent International Documentary Film Festival and Goethe Institute.
