DStv Eutelsat Star Awards Competition 2015 – Win a trip to Paris or Johannesburg!

The 2015 DStv Eutelsat Star Awards competition is now open for entries. They are calling all learners to write an essay or design a poster on how satellites have helped us to understand and take care of our planet.

The Awards are open to all students from secondary (high) or combined schools in Africa where MultiChoice Africa maintains operations. Enter the Awards by creating an award winning essay or poster about satellite technology and how it helps us to understand and take care of our planet and you can win big!

Topic

Man must rise above the Earth, to the top of the atmosphere and beyond, for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives. » (Socrates)

With reference to this quote, write an essay or design a poster to explain how satellites help us to understand and take care of our planet.

Prizes

Besides awesome prizes up for grabs in the country awards, overall winners will be rewarded with the trip of a lifetime:

  • Best overall essay – a trip with his/her parent/legal guardian to Eutelsat in Paris, France and onwards to a spaceport to attend a live rocket launch.
  • Best overall poster – a trip with his/her parent/legal guardian to Eutelsat in Paris and a satellite construction site.
  • Runner up overall poster and essay entries – a trip with their parent/legal guardian to visit MultiChoice in Johannesburg and the South African National Space Agency at Hartebeesthoek.

The schools attended by the four overall winners will also receive a DStv installation, including a dish, TV, decoder and free access to the DStv Education Bouquet.

Eligibility

  • The Awards are open to students between 14 and 19 years of age in secondary, high or combined schools anywhere in Africa where MultiChoice operates.
  • Entries can be submitted in English, French or Portuguese

Essay Requirements

  • 1200 to 1400 words (excluding bibliography)
  • Typed in Arial 12, 1.5 spacing or must be hand written, but clearly legible
  • Pages to be numbered
  • Only hard copy entries will be accepted
  • Entries may include illustrations, graphics or diagrams
  • References (all sources consulted during the preparation of the entry)

Poster Requirements

  • Entries may not be bigger than A1 Size (420 X 297mm)
  • Only hard copy entries will be accepted

All poster entries must be accompanied by a typed or legible hand written summary containing the following headings:

  • Title
  • Summary of idea/concept
  • References (all sources consulted during the preparation of the entry)

Submission of Entries

Entries must be:

Deposited: in the entry box at MultiChoice Africa country or regional offices (African countries) OR for South Africa at the MultiChoice Africa Building,141 Bram Fischer Drive in Ranburg, Johannesburg (South Africa only).

Posted: To MultiChoice offices listed on the entry form. For South African entries only : To MultiChoice Africa, Corporate Affairs, 141 Bram Fischer Drive, Randburg. Attention: Nonye Omotola

All entries must be accompanied by an entry form and in the case of posters an entry form and creative summary.
