Applications for Chatham House Academy fellowships in 2016/17 are now open. The Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership in International Affairs offers potential and established leaders from around the world the opportunity to spend up to twelve months at Chatham House in London, UK. Emerging and experienced leaders are invited to apply for new fellowships in September 2016.

Launched in November 2014 by Chatham House’s patron HM The Queen, the Academy offers potential and established leaders from around the world the opportunity to spend up to twelve months as Academy fellows. Based in the unique and neutral venue of Chatham House, the Academy builds on the institute’s international reputation for independent thinking, cutting-edge research and informed debate. It also takes advantage of Chatham House’s location in the heart of London, one of the world’s most vibrant and global cities.
Eligibility
- Prospective fellows should be driven by a set of common values including a commitment to transparency, accountability and shared responsibility. They should be ready to explore new approaches, to learn new skills and to apply these.
- Academy fellowships are currently available to applicants from the following countries:
- Afghanistan, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, People’s Republic of China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Moldova, Pakistan, Palestine, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Korea, Syria, Ukraine
- If you fulfil the nationality eligibility requirements for a specific fellowship but currently live in another country such as the UK or the US you may still apply but preference will be given to applicants who are currently working in these countries and who would stand to benefit most from undertaking the fellowship. Applications will be accepted from applicants holding dual nationality which includes one of these countries.
- Applicants must propose a research project that fits within the topics advertised for the fellowship.
- Academy fellowship candidates should, at a minimum, have completed a BA degree or equivalent, although an MA degree with an international focus is preferred.
- Academy fellows will be in the early stages of their career, have between two to five years of relevant work experience, and have demonstrated evidence of consistent achievement.
- Academy senior fellows will be at a more advanced stage of their career and will have completed their MA or a PhD, with an international focus. In addition, they should have at least eight years’ postgraduate experience and a strong record of achievements.
- All fellows should have good levels of English, both written and verbal.

Academy Asfari Fellowship: The purpose of this fellowship is to offer potential and established leaders from the Middle East the opportunity to further develop their understanding, ideas and approaches on the most pressing challenges facing the Arab world. Fellows will have the chance to advance their knowledge, develop research skills and build links with the policy, academic and other communities in the UK and more widely. Applications are now open.

Academy Asia Senior Fellowship: The Academy Asia Senior Fellowship is open to established leaders and practitioners from Afghanistan, Australia, People’s Republic of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, and South Korea. The fellowship offers an opportunity to further develop an understanding of, and approaches to, addressing the political, economic and social issues facing Asia and the world. Applications are now open.

Academy Stavros Niarchos Foundation Fellowship: The fellowship offers young and promising leaders from Greece and the Greek diaspora the opportunity to develop their understanding, ideas and approaches on the most pressing challenges facing the world. The fellow will have the chance to advance their knowledge, develop research skills and build links with the policy, academic and other communities in the UK and more widely. Academy Robert Bosch Fellowship (Russia and Eurasia): The fellowship is intended to provide an opportunity for the next generation of scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine to advance their knowledge of post-Soviet politics, develop research skills, contribute to Chatham House research, and build links with policy and academic communities in the UK, Germany and the EU more broadly. Applications are now open.

Academy Robert Bosch Fellowship (Central Europe and Africa): Chatham House, in partnership with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, will host a fellow to advance research on political and economic developments in Africa. The fellowship is intended to provide an opportunity for the next generation of scholars from Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland and Romania to contribute to Chatham House research, participate in the Academy’s Leadership Programme, and build links with policy and academic communities. Applications are now open.

How to Apply
The Academy opens its call for applications once every year and does not accept applications outside these calls. Once a call has been opened, applicants will be able to download from each fellowship page the two documents needed to apply: the application form and the information pack.
- Information pack: Provides background information on eligibility criteria, topics under which a research project can be proposed, remuneration, visas and conditions of the fellowship.
- Application form: Provides applicants with the opportunity to detail their leadership experience, aptitude for the fellowship, research proposal, and outline their post-fellowship plans.
Application forms and supporting documents should be submitted to the Academy by email or post. Applicants will receive an automated email acknowledging receipt of their application when it has been received.
