The Islamic Development Development Bank (IDB) is calling for nominations for the 2017 Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development. The IDB Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development, developed in 2006 is to draw international attention to the vital role women play in developing their communities and the world.

The theme for the 2017 IDB Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development is “Women’s Contribution To Promoting Peace And Stability.” The purpose of the IDB is to foster the economic development and social progress of member countries and Muslim communities individually as well as jointly in accordance with the principles of Shari’ah i.e., Islamic Law.

The Islamic Development Bank Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development aims to:

  • Recognize the important role of women in IDB member countries and Muslim communities globally.
  • To recognize the contributions made by individuals, women or organizations to improve the socio-economic status of women in IDB member countries and Muslim communities in non-member countries
  • To encourage the efforts of individuals and organizations that offer grants and resources to work towards promoting women’s leadership.
  • To inspire women by promoting exemplary role models, individuals, and organizations to imitate.
  • Reward actions that reinforce and strengthen the role of women as essential contributors to society.

Prize

The prize consists of two cash awards:

  • $ 50,000 for a woman or a group of women.
  • $ 100,000 for an organization.
  • The Prize is awarded during the Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors.

Eligibility

  • Individuals and organizations should first be nominated.
  • The prize is open to individuals and organizations in IDB member countries and Muslim communities globally.
  • Individuals and organizations nominated should exhibit projects that have contributed to the improvement of the socio-economic status and well being of society.
  • Individuals and organizations nominated should have projects or activities that are outstanding, sustainable innovative and unique.
  • Individuals and organizations nominated should have mechanisms for expanding their projects or activities to surrounding areas to ensure their services are offered to as many beneficiaries as possible.
