The programme provides an opportunity for highly qualified scholars in Russian and Eastern European studies to visit the Aleksanteri Institute and the University of Helsinki for a period of one to three months.

During the fellowship, Visiting Fellows work on their research projects and can benefit from interaction with scholars at the Aleksanteri Institute and elsewhere in Finland. Each Visiting Fellow has two academic hosts who are working on a related theme and who help them to settle in and establish contacts with the research community in Finland.

Benefits

  • Visits are supported with a monthly grant of € 3300 (in the academic year 2018–2019) to cover all expenses related to the stay in Helsinki (e.g. accommodation, travel, insurance, visa).

Eligibility

  • Open to scholars who carry out research in a field relevant to the Aleksanteri Institute’s multidisciplinary research profile on Russia and Eastern Europe, and whose place of residence is outside Finland;
  • Applicants can be at any career stage but must hold a PhD degree. The degree must be granted by February 13, 2018.

Application

  • Complete an electronic application form until Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 23:59 Finnish time (UTC +2:00);
  • Upload the following material to the electronic application form as a single PDF file:
