Deadline: May 1, 2018
Applications are open for the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Academic Writing Residency Program 2019. The Program offers academics, artists, thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners a serene setting conducive to focused, goal-oriented work, and the unparalleled opportunity to establish new connections with fellow residents from a wide array of backgrounds, disciplines, and geographies.
The Center has a strong interest in proposals that align with The Rockefeller Foundation’s efforts to promote the well-being of humanity, particularly through issues that have a direct impact on the lives of poor and vulnerable populations around the world. These issues include but are not limited to health, economic opportunity, urban resilience, as well as food and agriculture.
The Foundation’s Bellagio Residency Program has a track record for supporting the generation of important new knowledge addressing some of the most complex issues facing our world, and innovative new works of art that inspire reflection and understanding of global and social issues.
Benefits
- During the course of the residency, room and board are provided without charge. The atmosphere at the Center is somewhat like a private home, albeit a very large one. The Center does not operate as a hotel and as such has limitations on certain services (for example, room service is not available). All meals for residents are served at the Villa;
- Room assignments are made at the time of invitation. All rooms have a private bath. Most rooms have an adjoining study, but some rooms have a study located inside the Villa or in the wooded park adjoining the Villa. Studios have a desk, chair, and a lamp. There is also a printer available. Depending on availability, residents can request a laptop computer.
Eligibility
- The Academic Writing Residency is open to university and think tank-based academics, researchers, professors, and scientists working in any discipline;
- Successful applicants will demonstrate decades of significant professional contributions to their field or show evidence of being on a strong upward trajectory for those earlier in their careers.
