Deadline: January 30, 2019

The Schindler Global Award 2019 is open for applications. The Schindler Global Award is a student urban design competition. It is focused on mobility, understood as a key driver of desirable change in urban areas around the world.

The Schindler Global Award (SGA) ideas competition asks students to put their skills to the test and participate in the making of livable and sustainable urban environments – with mobility in mind. Mobility systems move people, goods and ideas over road and rail, sea and air, and through neighborhoods, regions and the world. Mobility is a catalyst and a conduit for globalization and urbanization – and for the creation of better lives and neighborhoods.

Participation in the competition gives students a platform for knowledge sharing, comparison and recognition. Through the use of the open competition format, common in professional design practice, students have the opportunity to gain career-oriented skills and contact with internationally renowned practitioners and experts.

About

The Schindler Global Award (SGA) will focus on the impact and implications of current and future mobility systems on urban development in one of the most globally significant cities – Mumbai.

The SGA is a one-of-a-kind urban design competition that encourages students to put their skills to the test. As the second  largest city in the world, Mumbai presents many challenges, offering  participating students the chance to engage with spatial, social and  strategic topics. Mumbai requires integrated and sustainable urban systems that make the benefits of the city accessible to all its inhabitants. The megacity is also a benchmark for South Asia and beyond. How it approaches continuing growth and manages development processes is relevant at every scale, from neighborhood to national and global.

Prize

With over 100’000 USD in prizes and a jury of international experts and practitioners, the Global Schindler Award gives the students of today a chance to contribute to the cities of tomorrow.

First Prize US$ 25’000
Second Prize US$ 15’000
Third Prize US$ 12’500
3x Honorable Mention US$ 7’500 each
