Do you know a young person doing great and breaking boundaries in the past one year? Nominate them now for the Future Awards Africa 2019.

The Future Awards Africa, also popularly known as The Future Awards, are a set of awards given by The Future Project (TFP), a social enterprise set up with a strong, practical commitment to human and capital development, especially in Africa. The Future Project is the largest home-grown network of policy-makers, business people, and other stakeholders in Africa.

The awards celebrate young people between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration. Forbes has described the awards as “Most important awards for outstanding young Africans”. The awards was conceived by Chude Jideonwo and Adebola Williams in 2004. The first The Future Awards ceremony was held on February 6, 2006, at the Muson Centre in Lagos to honour the outstanding achievements of the 2005/2006 season.

Award Categories

  • Category 1: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Acting: This award recognizes the outstanding talent and remarkable achievements of an actor or actress whose work has distinguished them within the year in view.
  • Category 2: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Advocacy: This award recognizes individual contributions to ensuring that their work influences decisions within political, economic, social systems and institutions for the development of the country in their chosen causes.
  • Category 3: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Agriculture: This award recognizes the contributions of entrepreneurs, advocates, or professionals who have demonstrated commitment and made a measurable impact in the field of agriculture, and agro-related causes.
  • Category 4: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Arts (Visual and Applied): This prize seeks to highlight the extraordinary achievements of visual, performance and digital artists in the field of creative and visual arts within the year in view.
  • Category 5: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Business: This award is conferred on an entrepreneur who has founded, led and grown a business or private enterprise to measurable growth and/or success through extraordinary vision, leadership, and commitment to innovation in the year in view.
  • Category 6: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Community Action: This prize seeks to acknowledge the contributions of individuals (project based) to community building in different fields within the year in view.
  • Category 7: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Education: This award is given to a tutor, administrator or educator who has recorded measurable impact in advancing education through advocacy, innovation, and education development in Nigeria.
  • Category 8: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Fashion: This award rewards the work of individual(s) in the fashion industry who has impacted the industry through his/her chosen medium and created a tangible body of work within the year in view.
  • Category 9: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Film Making: This award recognizes the contributions of professionals within the film industry towards improving the craft of film making and influencing global audiences within the year in view.
  • Category 10: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Journalism: This award is given to a writer, reporter, presenter, producer, and other professionals working in the journalism profession who has demonstrated excellence in the work of telling of stories and bringing the news to the public.
  • Category 11: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Literature: This award recognizes the personal and professional achievements of young writers within the year in view.
  • Category 12: The Future Awards Prize for Media: This award recognizes the contributions of a professional who has dedicated themselves to creating quantifiable impact in the advancement and evolution of traditional and new media in the year in view.
  • Category 13: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Music: This award is conferred to a recording and performing artist whose music has made a significant impact in the industry and earned them local and international repute in the year in view.
  • Category 14: The Future Awards Africa Prize for On-Air Personality (Audio/Visual): This award recognizes individuals who have amassed considerable influence in their field and have used this influence to effect social change within the year in view.
  • Category 15: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Photography: This award recognizes the contributions of Nigerian portrait, wedding, fashion and documentary photographers to the art form and creative endeavors as a whole. It rewards the most impactful photographer within the year in view.
  • Category 16: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Politics: This award recognizes the contributions of young politicians during the last election towards nation building.
  • Category 17: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Professional Service: This award recognizes the contributions of a professional who has dedicated themselves to creating tangible impact in the private sector through innovation and collaboration in the year in view.
  • Category 18: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Public Service: This award is given to a technocrat who has made an outstanding contribution in public service sector within the year in view (excluding politics)
  • Category 19: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Sports: This category is awarded to sportsmen and women in various disciplines who have excelled in local and international sport and brought glory to themselves and the nation in the year in view.
  • Category 20: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Technology: This award acknowledges the work of a researcher, scientist, innovator, inventor who has contributed to the advancement and application of technology either for personal gain, professional advancement, charitable causes or administrative duties within the year in view.
  • Category 21: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Young Person of the Year: This prize is awarded to a young person who has become a force for change, capturing the collective imagination of all Nigerians through their personal achievements, public image, and personal triumphs. He/She also has demonstrated intuition, innovation, and initiative and is not afraid to lead change in his or her sector, market awareness, and understanding.

Eligibility

  • Nominees are young people between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration.
