Deadline: August 18, 2020

We are celebrating International Youth Day with LEAP Africa on a new initiative on August 12. Did you know you can join hundreds of young people at the frontline who are taking action to bring change to their community?

Initiated by LEAP Africa, the Youth Day of Service (YDoS) is an annual youth-led social impact campaign with the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDG) in focus. This is a youth ecosystem driven event that involves other youth development organizations; JAN, ENACTUS, TEACH FOR NIGERIA, WAVE Academies. It is Youth and Personal Leadership in Action!

About the Program

Day of Service is a massive movement intended to empower young people, strengthen communities and trigger collective actions that would move us closer to achieving the SGDs with 2030 in view.

To celebrate ‘International Youth Day’, on August 12, LEAP Africa will be encouraging young people, corporate organizations, public and social sector organizations, SMEs, to become advocates and renew the spirit of active youth citizenship with emphasis on spreading the culture of service and collective responsibility.

The campaign will showcase different projects championed by young people in communities across Nigeria. It is a week-long event from August 12 – 18, 2020 in commemoration of International Youth Day. It is an opportunity to convey young people to action and activate the agency of youth across Africa.

The theme for Youth Day of Service is ‘Youth4SDGs’ and will showcase different projects championed by young people in communities across Nigeria. All YDoS projects will happen on the 12th of August, 2020 and no later than 18th August 2020.

Benefits

As a volunteer you can carry out different community-based projects that other people can join, such as cleaning of a local environment, providing welfare and safety kits to underserved communities, painting the walls of a school, educating a group of women on sexual health, paying the tuition fees of students, organising a webinar to support SMEs, and many more.

Eligibility

  • Open to Nigerian youth
  • Applicants must be between 18 – 35 years
  • No prior volunteering experience is needed to participate in the Youth Day of Service. All you need is a heart to serve and collaborate with other people.
  • Applicants must be passionate about the SDGs, willing to give back to your community and join an amazing network of youth African change makers.

Application

We have joined the movement. We encourage you to do the same by championing a project or join an existing one on August 12 or within that week.

  1. Create a project
  2. Volunteer for a project
