This paid opportunity will allow youth to shape policies and programs, advocate for real change, amplify youth voices, and learn new skills.
The Office of Neighborhood Safety, based in the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, is recruiting youth and young adults to work with policy makers and communities to reimagine NYC’s safety. This initiative is dedicated to lifting up youth experiences to improve safety and wellbeing in key NYCHA developments and New York City.
The council will take place over the course of nine (9) months (March through November 2022 and last approximately 36 weeks). Members will participate in Council activities ~2 times per week (max 4 hours/week), during which time members will work with the Office of Neighborhood Safety, CUNY Intergenerational Change Initiative, the Center for Court Innovation, and other partners.
Benefits
- Participants will receive a monthly stipend of $400.
Eligibility
- Open to youth and young adults in New York City;
- No prior experience is needed. You’ll shape policies and programs, advocate for real change, amplify youth voices, and learn skills along the way.

Submit your application by Sunday, February 13, 2022. They would like to speak to each applicant by phone to get to know you a little and share more information about the ONS Youth Leadership Council. Don’t stress – these aren’t formal interviews!
