Applications are open for the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme 2024 at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology. The programme aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development.
For this purpose, scholarships for development-related studies are awarded to individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in SubSaharan Africa. By training future academic and professional leaders, the programme contributes to the following long-term impacts:
- Qualified professionals’ involvement in the solution of development-related problems in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Graduates strengthening education and research in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Structural strengthening and regional networking of partner institutions and partner universities.
Scholarship
The scholarship covers:
- Tuition Fees
- Study and research allowance annually
- Printing allowance
- Monthly Scholarship (Accommodation, Food etc.)
- Travel allowance (In-region only)
- Insurance (In-region only)
Eligibility
- Applicant must be nationals or permanent residents of a Sub-Saharan African country.
- Be a holder of BSc degree in Food Science and Technology with at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division); OR a holder of a BSc degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in any related fields (Food Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Nutrition and Dietetics, Agri-processing, Crop/Animal Production), or equivalent qualification recognized by DeKUT Senate.
- Clearly demonstrate motivation and strong commitment;
- Have thorough knowledge of spoken and written English;
- Have generally completed their last university degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application;
- Should generally be:
- staff member of a public university or
- a candidate considered for teaching or research staff recruitment or
- from the public sector and/or
- Alumni of the DAFI-programme;
- Female applicants, refugees with recognized refugee status and candidates from other less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.
Application
As a first step, all applicants must submit a complete application for the programme via the DAAD Portal. Be aware of the DAAD’s application deadline as well as Dedan Kimathi University of Technology’s deadline.
Mandatory documents to be submitted (in either English or German) for the DAAD scholarship application:
- DAAD application form duly filled in and submitted according to the outlined deadline;
- Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications (if applicable) if not otherwise possible without a signature;
- One recommendation letter by university teachers (stamped and signed);
- Letter of admission for the host university (this can be subsequently submitted before the scholarship begins if it is not available at the time of application);
- Certified copies of university degree certificates including transcripts (if available, including a grading scale for the final university degree and if available, information on the recognition of the university degree certificates in the host country);
- Letter of motivation (1-2 pages with personal, social motivation as well as your reference to the studies and a possible Master project);
- Copy of the passport or, if not applicable, a copy of National Identification Card (mandatory for an application for a scholarship);
- A semester schedule;
- A timetable (if applicable: mentioning the planned research stay in Germany, see “Additional benefits”);
- If applicable, information on the UNHCR registration as refugee.
