Applications are open for the TRC Investigative Reporting Fellowship 2024. This is an opportunity to produce top-grade investigative work in English that will be published by The Collective and made available for co-publication by regional newsrooms.
The inaugural fellowship will be awarded to candidate(s) with at least two years of reporting experience to tackle the ambitious investigative project they propose. This fellowship is funded by citizens who champion the Reporters’ Collective (TRC) work.
They invite proposals by journalists from across India to share their story ideas aligning with the following themes:
- India’s Political Economy
- Environment and Climate Change
- Technology and Digital Security
- Governance and Accountability
- Public Health and Policies
Grant
- The chosen candidate will receive a grant of Rs. 80,000 for the story (inclusive of any taxes). This is excluding travel costs incurred for reporting. Upon receiving approval, 20% of the grant will be disbursed immediately, followed by 40% upon submission of the draft, and the remaining amount upon publication of the story. Reporting-related travel or other expenses will be reimbursed along with the final payment on submission of bills.
Eligibility
- Open to independent journalists with at least two years of professional experience as a reporter.
- Journalists with an ambitious investigative story proposal that needs time and resources to execute.
- The story that is being proposed should have progressed past the initial stages of reporting and should be backed up with documents to convince our editors to greenlight the project.
Application
The fellowship period is from 1 March, 2024 – 31 May, 2024. The applicants have to submit a tentative work plan, outlining the key milestones and deadlines for their investigative project.
