Applications are open for the Generation of Environmental Leaders Program 2024. The Generation of Environmental Leaders Program (GELP) invites youth in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, to submit their solutions “to act now to support North American communities and preserve our shared waters, lands, and air.”
The selected North American youth will experience a year-long mentorship, receive C$15K in seed funding, and contribute to a dynamic community of knowledge sharing and collaboration, as well as the chance to present their solutions to North America’s top environmental officials and receive unique networking and mentorship opportunities.
Benefits
- Mentorship: Gain direct guidance from experts, create engaging tools and master development and project management skills.
- Networking: Be the voice of change and present your solution to North America’s top environmental officials at the CEC Council Session. Participate in national, regional and international conferences and share your knowledge and skills.
- Seed Funding: Receive C$15,000 in seed funding to develop an impactful solution and support your community in shaping a sustainable tomorrow.
Eligibility
- Open to participants aged 18-35 residing in Canada, Mexico, or the United States.
- Teams such as, but not exclusively, youth-led organizations, youth-led associations, nongovernmental organizations, and not-for-profit youth-led organizations, teams of youth innovators, or entrepreneurs interested in building their businesses.
- Demonstrate how your solution channels a strong impact on communities and facilitates substantial long-term sustainability.
- Demonstrate how your solution addresses critical issues related to support North American communities and preserve our shared waters, lands and air.
Judging Criteria
Solutions will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Impact and Community Engagement (40%)
- Feasibility (25%)
- Alignment with the CEC’s strategic pillars and the program theme (15%)
- Identification of problem/issue (10%)
- Innovation (10%)

Participants must submit their solution in Foundant. All submissions must include the following information for the team representative and for an additional team member:
- Full name (as it appears in their passport)
- Email address
- Current city and country of residence
- Date of birth
