Deadline: March 30, 2024

Applications are open for the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) Internship Programme 2024. The UNU-IIGH internship programme aims to provide young scholars with an opportunity to learn more about the work of UNU-IIGH, as well as gain hands-on experience at a think tank within the UN system. The internship programme also encourages young scholars to advance their own studies related to global health by contributing to the institute’s policy-relevant research projects.

UNU International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is the designated UN think tank on global health, serving as a policy translation hub for UN member states, agencies and programmes. It was established by a statute adopted by the Council of the United Nations University in December 2005.

The Institute generates policy-relevant analysis by applying a gender lens to inform the development, implementation and evaluation of health programmes. UNU-IIGH also supports the capacity development of local decision-makers and stakeholders to engage effectively with global health challenges within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Stipend

  • Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UNU to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
  • The monthly amount of the stipend will be determined for each duty station based on the stipend rates in effect. For Kuala Lumpur, the rate is MYR 1,000 per month. The stipend will be paid monthly.

Eligibility

  • Interns are recruited through a competitive application process, and should be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme at the time of application and during the internship.
  • Undergraduate students in the final academic year and recent graduates who have completed a graduate or undergraduate degree programme within two years will also be considered if their research topics are linked to the work of UNU-IIGH.

The candidate:

  • has excellent research, writing and analytical skills;
  • can establish and maintain effective working relations with people from diverse backgrounds;
  • demonstrates resourcefulness and creativity in problem-solving;
  • has advanced computer skills: sound, hands-on, knowledge of MS Office applications (familiarity with ICT tools and high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel are desirable);
  • has a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and more specifically, in the work of the United Nations University.

Application

  • Fill out the Application Form and upload it into the box named “P11 Form”;
  • Upload a cover letter outlining your reasons and motivations for applying (as a general rule, keep your cover letters concisely written – less than 500 words – with proper heading, subject, salutation, date, and punctuation);
  • Upload an updated resume, with contact details, academic record, publications, and past work experiences (include the CV in the same PDF file of the Cover Letter).
