Deadline: April 30, 2024

Applications are open for the EurekAlert! Travel Awards 2024 for International Science Reporters. The EurekAlert! Travel Awards for International Science Reporters support excellence in science journalism globally, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries. Through the program, EurekAlert! provides travel funding and support to early-career science, technology, and health journalists to attend the AAAS Annual Meeting, where they can access opportunties to cover the latest research and network with peers from around the world.

The travel awards, previously titled the EurekAlert! Fellowships for International Science Reporters, have recognized more than 80 science journalists from Africa, Central and South America, the Middle East, India, China, and the Balkans. The program was launched in 2004 with a seed grant from the William T. Golden Endowment Fund for Program Innovation and is sponsored by EurekAlert!, the editorially independent science news distribution platform operated by the nonprofit American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Benefits

  • Winners will receive travel funding to attend the 2025 AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.

Eligibility

  • Open to early-career science journalists in the following countries:
    • The Balkans: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia
    • Eastern Europe: Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine
  • Have no more than five (5) years of experience as a professional science journalist (staff and/or freelance);
  • Be able to obtain a visa and travel to a future AAAS Annual Meeting within the next two (2) years;
  • Working proficiency in English is highly recommended.
