Deadline: December 5, 2024

Applications are open for the TWAS Research Professors in LDCs 2024/2025. The objective of the programme is to provide institutions and research groups located in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) with the opportunity to establish long-term links with TWAS members and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni to assist in research activities and advanced training and so help develop the local scientific capacities needed.

Within the framework of the programme, a number of TWAS Members and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni will be offered appointments as TWAS Research Professors in Least Developed Countries. The appointment will be for one year and during which the TWAS Research Professor will be expected to visit the host institution for a period of two to four weeks. Both the TWAS Research Professor and the host institution will be expected to provide a comprehensive report on completion of the visit.

The TWAS Research Professor will be expected to interact closely with members of the host institution with the aim of strengthening its existing activities and/or assisting in the establishment of new lines of research. The TWAS Research Professor may also be requested to deliver a series of topical lectures and seminars to research students.

Cost

  • Economy class travel (round-trip) and any additional travel expenses incurred by the TWAS Research Professor will be provided by TWAS as well as an honorarium. The host institution will be expected to cover local expenses.

Eligibility

  • Requests are accepted from research groups and scientific institutions in Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
  • This programme only provides support for visits of TWAS Members and TWAS Young Affiliates/Alumni to Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

Application

Be advised that applicants may apply for only one programme per calendar year in the TWAS and OWSD portfolio. Applicants will not be eligible to visit another institution in that year under the TWAS Visiting Professor programmes. One exception: the head of an institution who invites an external scholar to share his/her expertise under the TWAS Visiting Professor programmes may still apply for another programme.
