Applications are open for the MS-CC Undergraduate Summer Internship in Climate and Data Science 2025. The Minority Serving Cyberinfrastruture Consortium (MS-CC) Undergraduate Summer Internship in Climate and Data Science is a 10-week paid internship program that will be hosted at Fisk University in partnership with Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.
The internship will provide students with the opportunity to work with faculty mentors to apply computational and data-intensive approaches to climate science research. The first week of the program will provide in-person training and the remaining nine (9) weeks will include a combination of in-person and virtual mentorship, while working on the Fisk campus with other interns on a research project. At the conclusion of the internship program, students will present posters on their team research projects at one or more scientific conferences and/or events.
Benefits
- This internship will pay a $7,000 stipend over the duration of 10-weeks, in addition to travel to the internship, housing and meals, and field trips, and other opportunities to engage with experts in climate science.
Eligibility
- Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled in a science degree program with application (or potential application) in climate science.
- Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in quantitative research for climate science and a willingness to learn data science.
- Well-qualified applicants must be able to collaborate with diverse teams.
- Programming experience and prior research experience is valuable for this program but not required.
- Preference will be given to rising Juniors and Seniors at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).
