Applications are open for the Canada Academy Executive Residency Program 2025. The Executive Residency Program is a Canadian Academy initiative dedicated to providing industry access for mid-career professionals who identify as Black, Indigenous, or persons of colour, in order to influence a change in the next generation of executives and decision makers.

The eight-month national program matches high-level Advocates (such as VPs, Executive Producers, Development/Production Executives) with emerging leaders, providing insight into how creative and business decisions are made on an executive level. Participants will have the opportunity to develop their creative, business, and leadership skills, and make meaningful connections in the industry.

The Executive Residency Program is presented by the Supporting Partners Telefilm Canada and Ontario Creates; Collaborative Partners Bell Media, Cineplex, and Boat Rocker; and Community Partner BIPOC TV & Film.

Cost

  • There are no fees to apply for or participate in this program.

Eligibility

  • This program is designed to support members of the following underrepresented communities: Black, Indigenous, or persons of colour.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in the Canadian film/television/media/screen industry (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in developing story is an asset.
  • Applicant is mid-career and is ready to be considered for an executive position.
  • At least one (1) leadership position in any capacity, and/or experience overseeing a team (professional or voluntary).
  • Applications can be in English or French, but the placements will be made in English-dominant environments.
  • Participants need to be:
    • Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
    • 19 years of age or older

  • CV/Resume
  • 150-word Professional Bio
  • 500-word Letter of Intent/Leadership Mandate
  • 2-3 minute Intro Video in response to a chosen question
  • 250-word Summary of Professional Skills
  • Text responses to questions about program goals and career goals
  • Contact Info for 2 References:
    • One from someone you have managed, who can speak to your management/leadership style
    • One from a creator (for example: a writer, director, editor, etc.) you have worked with who can speak to your story/development skills
