Applications are open for the U.S. Embassy in Latvia Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) 2026. TEA will provide approximately 160 secondary school teachers from Europe and Eurasia, East Asia and the Pacific, the Near East, South and Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Western Hemisphere with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States.
Teachers will be hosted by the U.S. universities, in January 2026 and September 2026 and divided into cohorts of about 20 teachers at each university. Their program will include seminars on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional technology. The 6-week program will also include a practicum in a secondary school near the host university to work closely with American teachers and students. Trips to U.S. cultural sites and academic support will be provided for participants throughout the program.

The TEA fellowship is fully funded and provides:

Eligibility
- Be secondary-level with at least a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent, full-time teachers with three or more years of classroom experience in either English as a Foreign Language, Social Studies, Journalism, or Communications, Math, including special education teachers in those subjects, at institutions serving primarily a local population;
- Be citizens of Latvia;
- Have proficiency in written and spoken English, minimum TOEFL score from 45 to 46 iBT;
- Continue teaching for at least five years after completion of the program; and
- Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.
Application
The U.S. Embassy will hold interviews for candidates who are finalists in April 2025.
