The Charité Center for Global Health (CCGH), in collaboration with the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence (WHO Pandemic Hub), is excited to launch its inaugural Research Fellowship Program for 2025. This initiative invites academic researchers from diverse disciplines and countries to contribute to applied global health research, focusing on priority research areas that will advance the collective understanding of pandemic and epidemic threats and better inform decision-making in health emergencies. The Fellowship is also aligned with overarching research themes.

The program is open to mid- to senior-career researchers. Fellows will have the opportunity to join CCGH and WHO Pandemic Hub in Berlin, Germany for up to six months in 2025. Fellows will work on their own projects collaboratively between CCGH and the WHO Pandemic Hub, benefiting from mentorship, collaboration opportunities, and engagement within Berlin’s Global Health ecosystem to foster long-term partnerships.

As a fellow you will benefit from:

  • Advancing Impactful Research: Collaborate on high-priority themes and ongoing projects in global health and pandemic and epidemic intelligence.
  • Accessing new expertise: Engage with and work alongside researchers and interdisciplinary teams at both the WHO Pandemic Hub and the CCGH.
  • Connecting with Berlin’s Global Health Ecosystem: Network with top researchers and practitioners, gaining valuable interdisciplinary perspectives.
  • Fostering Innovation: Work in a dynamic environment designed to spark creative ideas and new approaches.

Funding

  • Living Allowance: Provided according to the collective agreement for the public sector, up to E14, Level 2.
  • Travel Support: Coverage for travel expenses, including one conference participation (Europe only).
  • Publication Support: Funding for one publication.
  • Insurance Reimbursement: Compensation for medical insurance expenses.

Funds will be covered in line with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin policies and regulations. No additional research costs can be funded.

Eligibility

  • Open to postdoctoral, mid-career (5-15 years into research) to senior-career researcher (15+ year into research) at the time of application;
  • Proven track record in research relevant to the research needs;
  • Fully completed application documents;
  • Strong written and spoken English skills (min. C1);
  • Permanent / fixed-term academic contracts and independent applicants;
  • Research project proposal aligned with prioritized priority research areas:
    • AI and Technological Advances;
    • Data Preparedness;
    • Analytical Frameworks;
    • Multisectoral Approaches;
    • Other research on public health intelligence or addressing thematic domains listed under the Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence Research prioritization.
