Deadline: October 15, 2025

Applications are open for the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) Scholar at Risk Fellowship 2026. The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is the University of Luxembourg’s third interdisciplinary research centre, focusing on high-quality research, analysis and public dissemination in the field of contemporary history. It promotes an interdisciplinary approach with a particular focus on new digital methods and tools for historical research and teaching.

To promote international exchanges and collaborations in the field of contemporary, public and digital history, the C²DH offers one short-term fellowship position for two months for a scholar at risk, including Palestine and Sudan.

Benefits

  • The fellowship carries a monthly reimbursement of €1,200 EUR for accommodation and €1,800 EUR for daily costs. The funding is supposed to cover all expenses including travel and insurance.
  • Fellows are expected to reside in Luxembourg or the Greater Region and they will support you in finding an accommodation in Luxembourg. The C²DH will provide office space and other relevant facilities.

Eligibility

  • Open to Scholars at risk. At-risk scholars are those who are experiencing, or experienced very recently, direct risk, such as threat of violence/ harm to the individual, harassment/ intimidation, threat of arrest/ imprisonment, etc, or they are experiencing general physical risk from an active conflict in their country of origin.
  • Applicants are expected to pursue their own research, which can relate to any region in the world and is ideally related to contemporary, public or digital history, broadly understood. Fellowship holders will be assigned to one of the Research departments and asked to present their current project in a seminar or colloquium.

Application

Applications should be submitted to [email protected] by sending a motivation letter & CV. Selection decisions will be announced no later than mid-December 2025.
