The United Nations Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Peoples is pleased to invite applications from Indigenous Peoples’ representatives to participate in the 25th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues & 19th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The 25th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues will take place in New York, USA, from 20 April to 1 May 2026. The 19th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 13 to 17 July 2026.

Eligibility

Indigenous individuals and representatives of Indigenous organizations who:

  • Are actively engaged in promoting and protecting Indigenous rights.
  • Can demonstrate how their participation will contribute to advocacy efforts for their communities.
  • Require financial support to cover travel, accommodation, and related expenses.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be assessed based on:

  • Representation: Priority will be given to Indigenous representatives with a clear mandate from their communities.
  • Relevance: Demonstrated involvement in human rights issues affecting Indigenous Peoples.
  • Impact: Potential for the applicant’s participation to strengthen advocacy and policy influence.
  • Need: Financial need and lack of alternative funding sources.

Applications from LGBTIQ+ and Persons with Disabilities are particularly encouraged!

  • Their latest curriculum vitae
  • A copy of their passport
  • A letter of nomination or recommendation by the executive of your indigenous organization or community
