Deadline: November 14, 2025

Applications for the Equalize Startups 2026 are now open. Equalize Startups is a nonprofit launchpad accelerating women-led startups. The six-month program offers expert training, personalized mentoring, in person networking, and a pitch competition – all designed to help women academic inventors successfully navigate the startup ecosystem.

Established in 2020, Equalize Startups is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit program that is taking national action around the disparity of women academic inventors forming startups out of non-profit research institutions. Equalizers receive education, a field-specific mentor, and access to networks that drive new entrepreneurial connections. They can include faculty, postdocs, and graduate students in STEM disciplines.

Benefits

  • Participation is completely cost free for those selected to be Equalizers.
  • Equalize Startups:
    • Provides a platform for academic women entrepreneurs to engage with investors
    • Offers a simple mechanism to gain pitching experience in a supportive environment
    • Creates an opportunity to obtain positive constructive feedback on business ideas
    • Provides a learning experience that provides strategic feedback and encouragement
    • Equalizers move forward with new connections, confidence, and a toolkit of knowledge about selling their ideas in the startup world.

Eligibility

  • Applicant should hold a position at an academic institution (faculty, post-docs, graduate students, staff scientists, etc.);
  • Have raised less than $1M in dilutive funding;
  • Have your product concept no more than 5 years from IND, product launch, or major corporate partnership; and
  • Are willing to commit to the time requirements needed to fulfill the program. This includes:
    • At least six one-hour sessions with your mentor (typically one session per month of the program)
    • Attendance at the in-person day planned for March 30, 2026, in Cambridge, MA
    • Attend and present at the virtual culmination pitch event on June 17, 2026; and
    • Attend the virtual training and networking sessions which are typically held every Friday from noon-1pm ET/11-noon CT/10-11am MT/9-10am PT from January through May 2026.

Application

They plan to accept 40 Equalizers into our 2026 cohorts, spread across the domains of Therapeutics, MedTech (Devices and Diagnostics), Tools (Digital Health and Research), and Physical Sciences.
