Deadline: January 4, 2026

Applications for the Environmental Fellows Program (EFP) at the Yale School of the Environment 2026 are now open. The Environmental Fellows Program (EFP) at the Yale School of the Environment (YSE) is a 12-week summer conservation leadership pathway fellowship that seeks to increase career accessibility within the environmental field by cultivating the skills and aspirations of master’s and doctoral students by connecting them to work opportunities in environmental nonprofits, grant makers, and government sectors.

This program arose out of a collaboration between University of Michigan’s School for Environment and Sustainability, the Environmental Grantmakers Association (EGA), and the C. S. Mott Foundation. The collaborators recognized the need for a program to identify and train diverse students to work in environmental and philanthropic sectors. This fellowship is supported by several philanthropic organizations.

The Environmental Fellows Program is looking for future leaders and decision-makers in the rapidly changing fields of conservation, justice, equity, and philanthropy.

Benefits

  • A bast stipend of $15,000 with $1,500 – $2,500 in supplementary assistance will be given through multiple disbursements throughout the summer. Final payment is contingent upon completion of all program requirements.
  • Travel assistance to your site placement is available. Additionally, travel costs are covered for fellows attending the orientation.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this program you must:

  • Be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA/DREAMers). International students are ineligible, except those that are Yale students (In other words: only international students studying at Yale may apply).
  • Have completed at least one year of graduate study by the start of the fellowship program and be currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program. Students graduating from master’s and doctoral programs in 2026 are welcome to apply, as are those graduating in winter of 2025.

Application

A complete application includes:

  • Application form
  • A curriculum vitae (CV) or resume
  • Graduate school transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation – All letters of recommendation must be received by the January 4 deadline. You can request recommendation letters before submitting your final application. Applications may be submitted before recommenders upload their letters.
