Deadline: December 12, 2025

Applications for the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center Amujae Initiative 2026 are now open. The Amujae Initiative is the flagship program of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development (EJS Center). It aims to inspire and prepare African women to unapologetically take on and excel in high‐level public leadership roles. The program aims to increase women’s meaningful representation in public leadership by enhancing their skills, strengthening networks, and shaping public perception of women leaders.

The Amujae Initiative is more than a program; it’s a movement. Launched in March 2020, their mission is clear: to inspire and equip Africa’s most talented women to rise unapologetically to the highest levels of public leadership and to bring others along with them.

Benefits

  • When you become an Amujae Leader, you don’t just gain access to world-class mentorship—you gain allies for life. Their mentors include former Heads of State, international leaders, and top-tier experts who have walked the path before you. This is the only program in the world where African women leaders receive direct guidance from former female heads of state. Together, they are building a multi-generational network that empowers, supports, and elevates women in public leadership.

Eligibility

Amujae Leaders are high-achieving women selected from across Africa who:

  • Have a proven track record of impactful leadership in public life or in sectors connected to public service.
  • Have a vision and demonstrated commitment to ascend to the highest levels of public leadership and to contribute more broadly to the collective welfare of their community, country, or region.
  • Are citizens and residents of an African country.

Selection Criteria

This year, they are looking for women who are aiming for the very top—whether it’s an elected office or an appointed position of power. To be considered, candidates must demonstrate:

  • Vision: A clear and compelling vision for change.
  • Leadership: Proven experience in senior leadership within political, civil, or international institutions.
  • Political Savvy: Deep understanding of political systems, election processes, and power dynamics.
  • Credibility: Recognized expertise and a reputation for excellence.
  • Personal Mastery: The drive to take control of their career and future.
  • Resilience: The strength to overcome obstacles on the path to leadership.
  • Ambition: The readiness to take a bold step forward within the next five years.
