Applications are open for the IJP German-Latin American Programme 2026-2027. The German-Latin American Programme aims to foster relations between Germany and Latin America. To this end, it offers young journalists from Latin America the opportunity to work as correspondents for two months in Berlin. German journalists, on the other hand, are given the opportunity to work in a Latin American country for the same period of time.
The programme expects the Latin American fellows to work at German host media, but the main objective is to work as correspondents for the editorial staff of their home country. The placement at their host media will enable fellows to familiarize themselves with the political and economic reality of Germany, as well as to get to know the culture and mentality of its people. Daily work in a newsroom ensures contact with German journalists, creating professional and friendly ties.
Benefits
- The scholarship consists of a payment of 4,000 euros. Of this, 3,500 euros will be paid at the beginning of the scholarship and the remaining 500 euros upon submission of a journalistic report on the scholarship. The scholarship is intended as a grant to cover all basic expenses for travel, accommodation and meals during the stay abroad. Only the accommodation during the introductory seminar and the one-week mid-term trip through Germany will be covered by IJP. Journalistic work performed as part of the fellowship will not be remunerated by the organisation.
Eligibility
- The programme is aimed at Latin American journalists between 25 and 38 years of age who have a special interest in Germany.
- An important requirement is good knowledge of the German language.
- An excellent command of English will be accepted if you do not know German.
Application
The application documents include a letter of motivation, three short story pitches, a CV, language certificates, three work samples, a letter of recommendation from the head of department or chief editor as well as story proposals.
