Smithsonian Women’s History Internship Program 2026 (Stipend available)

Applications are open for the Smithsonian Women’s History Internship Program 2026. The Women’s History Internship program offers paid internships that amplify women’s stories to tell a more complete American history, reach a diverse audience, and empower and inspire people from all walks of life. The 2026 Women’s History Internship Program will take place from June 8 to August 7, 2026, in Washington, DC.

In 2026, they will host four interns for the following projects:

  • Advancement Operations: Intern with the operations team and learn about all the support work done in Advancement.
  • Communications Program: “Beyond Notable” Communications Internship: The “Beyond Notable” internship offers a unique opportunity to make women’s history more accessible and discoverable online. Interns will work with a curated list of historically significant women who lack adequate digital representation, conducting original research and crafting compelling blog articles that bring these stories to light.
  • Digital Program: As part of the Learning and Public Engagement team, the Digital Community Engagement Internship offers the chance to design innovative programs that empower, excite, and educate audiences everywhere about the future of women’s history.
  • Museum Administration: Gain a unique perspective of the research, planning, and management efforts that go into building a museum’s operational infrastructure. This internship provides a unique perspective on the research, planning, and management efforts that build a museum’s operational infrastructure. Interns will learn how funding, staffing, policy compliance, technology systems, and asset management intersect to ensure we maintain the public’s trust.

Benefits

  • Interns will receive a $1,200 weekly stipend and reimbursement for travel to and from Washington, DC.

Eligibility

  • Open to current U.S. college students or recent college graduates (within 12 months of June 2026) who are at least 18 years old.
  • They welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, nontraditional learners, and those in both 4-year and community college programs.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  

Application

The application period opens January 12, 2026, and closes February 12, 2026, at 5 p.m. ET OR when 200 applications have been received, whichever comes first.
