ACEP Africa Climate Academy 2026 (Fully-funded)

Applications are open for the ACEP Africa Climate Academy 2026. The Africa Climate Academy is an educational platform designed to foster a paradigm shift in the understanding and discourse surrounding climate change, energy transition, and its implications for Africa. This one-week programme targets policymakers, media professionals, civil society leaders, and academia, providing them with new perspectives on the risks associated with oil dependence and the abundant opportunities offered by sustainable energy alternatives.

The Academy will consist of a series of modules conducted throughout the week, each addressing specific aspects of climate change, energy transition, and Africa’s role in shaping a sustainable future. The interactive and immersive nature of the program aims to reshape participants’ thoughts, challenge assumptions, and cultivate a collective commitment to embracing renewable energy alternatives.

Funding

The Academy is a fully funded program. Selected participants will receive comprehensive support, which includes:

  • Course Fees: Full coverage of tuition and all course-related materials.
  • Travel Expenses: Round-trip airfare for non-Ghanaians. Ground transportation to and from the program venue for all participants, including Ghanaians.
  • Accommodation: Comfortable lodging for the entire duration of the one-week program.
  • Meals: All meals provided, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, throughout the program.

This comprehensive funding ensures that participants can focus entirely on their learning and engagement without financial concerns.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Africa Climate Academy, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an African residing in Africa
  • Hold a position as a policymaker, media professional, civil society leader, or academic with a demonstrated interest in climate change and energy-related issues.
  • Have at least three years of work experience in their respective field, with a proven commitment to addressing the risks of oil dependence and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in exploring sustainable energy alternatives and their potential to reduce fossil fuel dependency across Africa.
  • Be fully available to participate in the one-week program, including all sessions and activities.
  • Possess a strong command of English, as the program will be conducted in English.

Selection Criteria

Participants will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Professional Background: Demonstrate experience in your field (e.g., policymaking, media, civil society, academia) and the ability to bring diverse and insightful perspectives to the program.
  • Interest and Motivation: Clearly express in your statement of purpose how your goals align with the Academy’s mission of transforming the dialogue on climate change, energy transition, and Africa’s sustainable future.
  • Potential Impact: Show potential to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the program to create meaningful and lasting change in your field, particularly in promoting sustainable energy solutions in Africa.
