Deadline: March 25, 2026

Applications are open for the taz Panter Foundation Workshop 2026 for African Journalists. The Panter Foundation of the independent German daily newspaper taz in Berlin invites 16 African journalists (print/TV/radio/online) to participate in the workshop “Global Powers, Local Realities – Africa’s Future Amid Global Power Plays and the Fight for Self-Rule.”

The program begins in April 2026 with a five-month hybrid phase featuring joint Zoom seminars, followed by a 12-day in-person phase in Berlin and Brussels in September 2026. During the workshop, participants will collaboratively develop a bilingual (German and English) print magazine as well as a four-part podcast series.

Costs

  • All travel expenses for the stays in Berlin and Brussels will be fully covered. Participants will also receive an honorarium for their contributions to the magazine and the podcast.

Eligibility

  • Journalists from the following 16 countries are invited to apply: Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
  • Fluent English is a prerequisite to ensure effective communication among participants and with speakers in Germany and Belgium. All seminars will be conducted in English.
  • Applications from women journalists are strongly encouraged.

Application

To apply, provide:

  • Weblinks to three work samples
  • A short CV (max. 2,000 characters)
  • A letter of motivation (max. 2,000 characters)
  • Two journalistic references (for example, editors-in-chief)
