Deadline: May 31, 2026

Applications are invited for the Centre for Budget and Policy Studies (CBPS) Research Fellowship 2026-2027. Launched in 2023 during CBPS’ 25th anniversary, the research fellowship is an opportunity for young scholars to deep-dive into research in the areas of education, gender, governance, health & nutrition, public finance, livelihoods and social security.

The fellows will work closely with CBPS’s research staff to gain valuable experience, support, and learnings in a collegial and academically rigorous environment which includes in-house talks, seminars, workshops as well as other public events. With the help of a mentor, the fellowship will allow scholars to be part of the ongoing research projects in an area of interest to the scholar.

Benefits

  • The fellows will receive a stipend of ₹25,000 per month and will also have access to office spaces and associated facilities including internet and use of the library. The fellowship, however, does not provide funds for housing, transportation, or any other financial support.

Eligibility

  • The fellowship is primarily geared towards scholars who have recently completed their Bachelor’s or are in the final year of their undergraduate programme.
  • CBPS especially encourages applications from scholars from historically underrepresented groups, including those underrepresented in terms of class, caste, gender, religion, linguistic affiliation, first-generation scholars etc.
  • Scholars from various disciplines and methodological approaches are invited.

Application

Apply with the following documents:

  • A Statement of Purpose (SoP) describing why you are interested in research in the areas listed above (not more than 1500 words)
  • A curriculum vitae or resume (in MS Word format)
  • Two letters of reference

Application documents to be sent to: [email protected]

For more information, visit CBPS Research Fellowship.
