Deadline: July 17, 2026
Applications are open for the Johannesburg Innovation Exchange (JIX) Gig-Economy Entrepreneurship Programme 2026. The Johannesburg Innovation Exchange (JIX) is a youth innovation and entrepreneurship initiative commissioned by the City of Johannesburg’s Department of Economic Development (IRED Unit) and delivered by Wits Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct. It is designed to grow inclusive economic participation across Johannesburg’s inner city by backing the young people who are already building their own income.
JIX Launchpad is the programme’s flagship incubation stream. It meets gig-economy entrepreneurs where they are — freelancers, content creators, designers, tailors, food vendors, drivers, tradespeople and service providers who are already earning but lack the structure, records, networks and digital skills to turn a hustle into a durable business. Over a focused, practical programme of workshops, one-on-one mentorship, business clinics and a public Demo Day, participants build a complete business toolkit and a credible plan to grow.
The programme will consist of 2 Cohorts of 4 weeks each. Each cohort runs an intensive four-week curriculum built around the real challenges gig entrepreneurs face. Every week combines an in-person workshop at Tshimologong with mentorship and a practical deliverable, so participants leave each module with something they can use immediately.
