Deadline: October 15, 2026
Applications are open for the Gulbenkian Institute for Advanced Study Scholarships 2027/2028. These fellowships are intended to support internationally renowned scholars in conducting free research for a limited period of time – usually between three and eight months – in a stimulating intellectual environment with few regular obligations.
At IGEA, Fellows will be able to develop the projects they have applied for in an environment conducive to reflection, concentration and intellectual dialogue. The Institute brings together scholars from different fields of study, with different backgrounds and nationalities, in order to create a diverse intellectual community, to encourage individual, original and quality work and reflection.
Eligibility
- The Institute intends to receive internationally renowned academics, mostly active, but will also consider applications from emeritus professors, independent scholars, and artists.
- Applications are accepted in most research fields, provided that they do not have laboratory or experimental requirements, and that the proposed work is not predominantly of a practical or applied nature.
Application
Applicants for the grants must submit their application individually, accompanied by a curriculum vitae, a brief description of the activities to be carried out during the residency at the Institute, and the name of two people who may be asked for letters of recommendation.
The offer of scholarships will be made to selected candidates from the end of January of the following year.
