Sudan-Norway Academic Cooperation (SNAC) PhD at Risk Scholarships 2026

Applications are open for the Sudan-Norway Academic Cooperation (SNAC) PhD at Risk Scholarships 2026. SNAC announces targeted scholarships to support Sudanese scholars severely affected by war, displacement, and the severely strained higher education institutions. This they do to support displaced scholars and students to maintain academic productivity, professional engagement and to enable new academic networks.

The PhD at Risk Scholarships aim to:

  • Prevent permanent interruption of Sudanese PhD trajectories due to war and displacement
  • Enable PhD candidates to continue or complete their research under constrained conditions
  • Safeguard long‑term academic capacity for the future rebuilding of Sudanese universities

Scholarship

  • Each scholarship may include a stipend of 10,000 Euros

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be Sudanese PhD candidates whose studies are demonstrably at risk due to the war;
  • Be enrolled at, or formerly affiliated with, a Sudanese or international university;
  • Present a realistic plan for continuation of their PhD under current circumstances;
  • Female PhD students from marginalized areas are particularly encourage to apply.

They particularly encourage projects related to peace and peacebuilding in Sudan, including both historical analysis of past failures to create peace as well as contemporary studies focused on current challenges and prospects for peace. They also welcome critical perspectives that challenged dominant frameworks of peacebuilding.

Interested candidates to submit their proposals (maximum 4 pages), CVs and other supporting documents to the following email: [email protected] by August 1, 2026. Put “SNAC PhD at Risk Scholarship” in the heading of the email.
