Applications are open for the Sudan-Norway Academic Cooperation (SNAC) Writing Scholarships 2026. SNAC announces targeted scholarships to support Sudanese scholars severely affected by war, displacement, and the severely strained higher education institutions. This they do to support displaced scholars and students to maintain academic productivity, professional engagement and to enable new academic networks.
For 2026, SNAC will award 13 Writing Scholarships targeting:
- staff at regional Sudanese universities
- displaced Sudanese academic staff residing in neighbouring countries
- newly graduated Sudanese PhDs, supporting the revision of their doctoral theses into journal articles for submission to international peer‑reviewed journals
Benefits
Each Writing Scholarship provides:
- A time‑bound stipend of 5000 Euros to allow dedicated writing time
- Academic and editorial support
- Opportunity to publish within SNAC‑supported outlets (Sudan working paper series at CMI). This is not an obligation, in fact applicants are encouraged to publish in international peer reviewed journals
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a Sudanese scholar whose academic work has been disrupted by war or displacement
- Be affiliated with a Sudanese university or research institution, or be recently graduated from a Sudanese PhD programme
- Have a clear plan for article development
Priority will be given to scholars from marginalized areas and marginalized groups.
