Applications are open for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship 2027. PNNL’s Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship is designed for the next generation of scientists and engineers who will push the boundaries of science to world-recognized discoveries.
Pauling Fellows are equipped with the resources to carry out a research program of their own design while benefiting from mentoring by internationally recognized researchers. They will devise cutting-edge approaches, utilize and build state-of-science capabilities, and guide research efforts that advance scientific frontiers and address pressing concerns for the nation.
Funding
- The Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships at PNNL provide full funding to selected candidates to pursue a major research project of their own conception. The pay range is up to USD $118,000.00/Yr.
Eligibility
- Open to qualified recent and upcoming PhD graduates in science and engineering who wish to conduct research on a project of their choice.
- Qualified candidates must have completed a PhD in a science or engineering field related to the mission areas of PNNL from an accredited college or university within the last three years or prior to the start of the fellowship.
- All staff at PNNL must be able to demonstrate the legal right to work in the United States.

- Research Proposal- Successful applications will describe in detail the intended research and development activities, the novelty and impact of carrying out this work, and why PNNL is an advantageous institution to carry out these studies. As part of explaining why PNNL is an ideal place for your proposed research, please cite three (3) publications within the last 5 years from PNNL authors that most closely connect to your proposed research or represents PNNL expertise and/or facilities that would support your research.
Note: They prefer Pauling Fellows to be at an appropriate PNNL site (dependent on the nature of the work proposed). Decisions on whether a staff member can be virtual or hybrid are made by PNNL management. The Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship is expected to start in the fall of 2027.
